YouTube suspends Trump channel, removes video for 'risk of violence'

The Google-owned YouTube site on Tuesday suspended Donald Trump's channel for “at least seven days” and removed a video for violating its anti-incitement policy.

In light of concerns about the current risk of violence, we have removed new content uploaded to Donald J. Trump's channel for violating our policies., the video site wrote in a statement.

The Trump Channel homepage featured a month-old video of the head of state that cast doubt on the November presidential election process and had some 5.8 million views.

The president's channel, which had 2.77 million subscribers, is now suspended from all new content downloads for at least seven daysYouTube added.

The video-sharing platform also said that it would disable comments indefinitely on the Trump channel for security reasons.

On Tuesday, a coalition of NGOs asked YouTube to remove the channel and threatened the platform with an advertising boycott if it did not do so.

Last week, Facebook suspended Donald Trump's Facebook and Instagram accounts following a violent invasion of the U.S. Capitol by a crowd of his supporters, which temporarily disrupted Democrat Joe Biden's certification of election victory.

Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg said the US president had used the platform to incite violence, and that he could continue to do so.

Twitter went further by deleting the Republican billionaire's account, depriving him of his favorite platform. Previously, the social network tweets already flagged its posts denying the election result.

Twitter also has permanently suspended 70,000 QAnon affiliate accounts, a pro-Trump conspiracy movement.

Apple and Google have removed the conservative social network Parler, popular with Donald Trump supporters, from their app download platforms. The two Californian companies reproach him for his non-moderation of messages of incitement to violence.

Other social networks like Snapchat and Twitch have also suspended President Trump's account.
