BISHKEK, October 26. / TASS /. The deadline for accepting documents from those wishing to take part in the upcoming early presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan expires on December 7. TASS was informed about this on Monday at the republic's Central Election Commission.
"Acceptance of documents from presidential candidates will end on December 7 this year," said a CEC staff member. According to him, early presidential elections are scheduled for January 10.
According to the current legislation, the acting president, Prime Minister Sadyr Japarov has no right to run for the highest office. However, the parliament intends to pass a number of laws in the near future that would allow it to participate in the elections.
After the October 4 elections in Kyrgyzstan, representatives of the parties that did not make it into the parliament staged riots in Bishkek. The Central Election Commission of the republic recognized the results of the expression of will as invalid and set a second vote for December 20. The speaker of parliament and the prime minister have resigned. Kanat Isaev was elected the new chairman of the legislative body, and Japarov, who was released from prison by the protesters, was elected head of the government. The powers of the head of state were transferred to him after Sooronbai Jeenbekov left the presidency on October 15.
Meanwhile, on October 22, parliament adopted amendments to the electoral legislation, according to which repeated elections to the legislature must be held "no later than June 1, 2021".
