Donald Trump and Joe Biden debate this Thursday in Nashville (Tennessee). This is the second and last face-to-face prior to the presidential elections on November 3. The debate began minutes after 9:00 p.m. Washington time (8:00 p.m. in Mexico City; 10:00 p.m. in Buenos Aires; and 3:00 a.m. in mainland Spain) and is broadcast by streaming on the EL PAÍS website, with the support of a live broadcast covered by our network of correspondents, as well as flash analysis, videos, data checks and reports from our specialists.

Topics to be discussed tonight are the covid-19 pandemic, racial tension, the situation of American families, climate change, national security, and leadership. Donald Trump opens the debate defending his strategy against the coronavirus. "I have been congratulated by the heads of many countries," he says, while insisting that "the blame for everything has been China." Biden reminds him that 220,000 people have died in the United States and that "he does not have a plan or a vaccine."

The second issue has to do with the transparency of the elections, questioned by Trump and a day after the FBI denounced the remote interference of Iran and Russia to influence the results. "Nobody has been as harsh against Russia as I have," says Trump, after accusing Biden without evidence of receiving "a lot of money" from Moscow. "I have not taken money from any foreign source, never," Biden responds, and brings up that his rival does not file his tax returns.

The debate continues with a discussion about Trump's intention to cut health plans. "I want better health care, that's why I want to end Obamacare," as the health care reform that Obama passed in 2010 is called, says Trump. "He wants to remove coverage from 22 million people," Biden responds. The moderator is now consulting Trump on separating immigrant children from their families. Trump says those children came without their parents. Biden says that's not true: “We've separated them from their parents and now they can't find them. That is criminal ”.
