Professor beheaded in France: 15 people in custody, including 4 college students

A total of 15 people, including 4 college students, were in police custody Monday afternoon in the anti-terrorism investigation into the murder on Friday of a teacher near Paris, we learned from a judicial source.

A person already convicted of acts of terrorism and who spontaneously declares to have been in contact with the author some time before the events was also taken into custody, while a student was released.

According to a source familiar with the matter, the murdered teacher was appointed to the assailant, Abdoullakh Anzarov, an 18-year-old Chechen Russian, by one or more schoolchildren, a priori against payment.

Police custody therefore aims to determine the possible responsibilities of college students in this area, according to the same source.

The ten other police custody are those which had started since Friday evening and during the weekend. First of all, the family circle, with the assailant's parents, grandfather and little brother, arrested in Évreux (north-west).

The father of the student who had called for a mobilization against the teacher is also questioned. He was arrested in Chanteloup-les-Vignes, in the Paris region.

The man who had accompanied him to college to complain about the professor and had interviewed his daughter in a video, the Islamist activist Abdelhakim Sefrioui, active in France since the mid-2000s, as well as his companion, are also.

Finally, three people who had been in contact with the attacker, who spontaneously presented themselves to the Evreux police station on Friday evening, are also in police custody.

Among these, according to a source close to the file, a person suspected of having escorted the assailant, and another person suspected of having accompanied him during the purchase of one of his weapons.

At around 5 p.m. local time on Friday, Abdoullakh Anzorov beheaded Samuel Paty, a history and geography professor, near the college where he taught in a quiet area of ​​Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, before being killed nine times by police 200 meters away.

The teacher had recently shown caricatures of Muhammad to his 4th year students (aged 13), as part of a course on freedom of expression.
