WASHINGTON, October 16. / TASS /. The United States hopes that Turkey will not put the Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) into service, otherwise it will face serious security consequences. This was reported to a TASS correspondent on Friday by the head of the press service of the US State Department Morgan Ortegus.

"The United States is making it clear that it hopes that the S-400 system will not be put into service. We are also very clear about the possible serious implications for our security relations if Turkey introduces the (C-400) system." – noted the diplomat.

According to her, the United States will "in the strongest terms" condemn the exercises with the S-400 in Turkey, if the information about their holding is confirmed due to the fact that the tests of the Russian air defense system "are incompatible with Turkey's obligations" within NATO and as a "strategic partner of the United States. ". "We are aware of these reports (of the past exercises). The United States has told the Turkish government at the highest level that it is unacceptable to acquire Russian military systems such as the S-400," Ortegus said.

As a military-diplomatic source told TASS on Friday, Turkey first tested the S-400 air defense system in the north of the country near the town of Sinop. Rosoboronexport (part of Rostec) did not comment on this information.

On October 14, the Office of Oceanography of the Turkish Navy announced Ankara's intentions to conduct firing exercises during the period from October 16 to 17. On Friday, Reuters reported that missile launches were carried out during them.
