BISHKEK, 12 October. / TASS /. The leader of the Ata Meken party, Omurbek Tekebaev, will become a member of the Kyrgyz parliament. This was reported on Monday by the 24.kg news agency with reference to the representative of the Central Election Commission of the republic, Gulnara Dzhurabaeva.
"The leader of the Ata Meken political party, Omurbek Tekebaev, will nevertheless become a deputy of the sixth convocation," the message says.
It is reported that the Supreme Court of the republic overturned all previous court decisions in the Tekebayev case.
The agency cites the words of Dzhurabaeva, according to which, in connection with the newly discovered circumstances, the status of a convict is removed from Tekebayev, until a court decision is made he is an accused and may have the status of a deputy.
Tekebayev was arrested in 2017 on the basis of a statement by Russian businessman Leonid Mayevsky. According to the Russian, Tekebayev, being a member of the Provisional Government of Kyrgyzstan (2010), received $ 1 million in exchange for a promise to assist Mayevsky in buying a company in Kyrgyzstan that provides cellular services. According to the investigation, the leader of the socialists subsequently did not fulfill his promise. For this crime Tekebayev was sentenced to eight years in prison under the "Fraud" article. In August 2019, Tekebayev was released under house arrest.
Earlier, Tekebayev sent a statement to the CEC, in which he indicated that he did not have the status of a convict, therefore, he could be a deputy before a court decision was made.
