Ready for a makeover?
Whether you're blonde and want to amplify your color or you're brunette and want to add depth to your hair, there's a powerful new coloring trend that promises to be one of the biggest of the upcoming season. We're talking reddish, which works well with almost any base color and is a cute way to add dimension to your hair.
If you want to join this beauty trend, here are the keys on how to use color and keep it as good as possible.
Add auburn highlights.
According to Tracey Cunningham (the mastermind behind Emma Stone and Zoey Deutch's signature red hair), the key to getting natural-looking red is to weave in multiple colors using super-fine highlights rather than dyeing it all in one shade.
Mix your roots.
For a more subtle take on the trend, keep your roots natural and add some brown highlights along the middle and ends of your hair, focusing on the strands closest to the face.
Elevation and tone.
Adding a bit of red looks good on everyone, even those with naturally dark hair. To replicate model Irene Kim's auburn auburn, ask your colourist to raise your foundation shade to a slightly lighter brown before adding the red hue mix.
Protect the color.
One final note: be sure to use a sulfate-free shampoo. Red is one of the quickest colors to fade depending on how often you wash and apply heat to your hair.
